“Longmire” (A&E) can be seen each Monday evening at 10/9 p.m. Last night's episode on Aug. 4, 2014 was called, “Ashes to Ashes.” The overnight cable TV ratings are not yet available. This is the 10th & final episode of the 3rd TV season. It was announced that the season finale episode would be extended to more than 60 minutes. The story lines had to be tied up with the main characters.
“Longmire” stars, Robert Taylor (Walt Longmire), Katee Sackhoff (Victoria “Vic” Moretti), Lou Diamond Phillips (Henry Standing Bear), Bailey Chase (Branch Connally), Cassidy Freeman (Cady Longmire) & Adam Bartley (The Ferg).
“Ashes to Ashes” opened with Walt driving up the road & finding Branch walking & holding his shotgun. Walt shows Branch the dead body of David Ridges. They bring him to the morgue & Walt suspends Branch from working as a deputy at Absaroka. Walt & Vic go to see Jacob Nighthorse who had lured Walt to where David could ambush him. Jacob had his lawyer present who proved he never lured Walt to David.
Branch goes to see David at the morgue & continues to investigate Jacob who paid David to run down Cady Longmire with a car. Walt goes to Denver to find that a black crow feather was found stuck inside Miller Beck's throat. He connects that to the black feather lodged inside Branch's bullet wound when he was shot. Henry decides to dig up Miller Beck's dead body to find that feather to clear himself of murder.
Branch had planted surveillance video at Jacob's construction site. He sees a black car belonging to his father Barlow, driving up to visit with Jacob. Walt & Henry bring the dead body of Miller Beck back to Absaroka & they find that someone stole the body of David Ridges. Sam Poteet took David's body back to an old tribal battle field. Sam believed David was a real “dog soldier” warrior.
A complete autopsy was performed on Miller Beck who had fought David Ridges before he was murdered in Denver. Detective Fales rushed to arrest Henry & failed to perform a complete autopsy. The district attorney dropped all murder charges against Henry. As Walt spread his wife's ashes in an open hillside. Branch found out that Barlow paid one of Jacob's corporations $100,000.
Branch also figured out that his father paid Jacob $50,000 three years ago, who sent David Ridges to Denver to kill Martha. Instead, Ridges planted the black feather inside Miller Beck who murdered Martha. Barlow couldn't stop his own son Branch from investigating David because everything would be traced back to him. Branch was then shot & tormented by David exactly the way Miller was.
Branch & Barlow are skeet shooting as Branch reveals all his findings. They both have loaded shotguns. Barlow says that he could always get another son & a gun goes off which Walt actually hears at his cabin. - Who was shot? Was it Branch or was it his father? We won't know anything until A&E picks up “Longmire” for a 4th TV season. You can watch the shortened episode of “Ashes to Ashes” at the A&E website.
