A dream Fiber Studio

If you are an avid crafter/knitter/weaver/spinner...you have probably thought about having the studio of your dreams at one time or another. A room where everything would have a place and everything would be in its place (functional). This would be your creative heaven to inspire you and allow you to know what you have and where to find what you are looking for.

A lot of planning would be required. Here are my thoughts:

Organization would be key, so lots of cubbies and places to put your stuff so it would be easily accessible. I want lots of light from large windows and good lighting for when the sun goes down. The color of the walls would be inspiring but subdued to allow my yarns and finished projects to shine through. The closet would be all built-ins with the heavier items at arms length or lower.

I love history, so antiques would fill the bill for furniture. An antique Lawyers bookcase with glass doors and a skeleton key to show off my hand dyed yarns (sorted by colors) and at the same time, keep the dust off. A large farm table would allow plenty of room to work and two stools (an extra for a friend or student) would be helpful. Attached to the table would be a ball winder and swift.

Running water for washing and setting yarn twist in a large deep sink is a must. A good sound system for music and a flat screened TV for viewing videos would be a nice luxury. A scale for weighing fleece, a place for my coffee mug and zippered pillowcases to protect my fleece. I would need jars for my dyes, a pair of scissors and a place for my knitting needles and crochet hooks and antique tins for buttons.

My Ashford Traditional spinning wheel and Dorset floor room would sit atop a handwoven area rug designed on my loom just for this space. The walls would have pictures of sheep, that I have spun. One wall would have a framed cork board and push pins to hold eye candy photos and articles, also a large frame around chalkboard paint to keep my to do list visible.

If there is any floor space left, a cozy chair to curl up in and read my fiber books and a magazine rack (to hold the latest issues of Spin-off).

Of course, an antique secretaries desk with all those little  cubbies. Definitely a computer to write my articles , blog and get email of what's happening at the local yarn shops.  Did I leave anything out?
