A dog, emotionally broken, in need of help

Harrison County, OH - Being discarded like trash hits some dogs harder than others. Some dogs, when callously thrown aside, seem to take their fate in stride. Others, like Ben, bear emotional scars that render them broken.

Ben was one of the dogs saved by The Gentle Barn last week. Prior to his rescue, Ben was housed at the Harrison County Dog Pound - surrounded by filth, freezing and amidst dogs that were sick and dying.

The suffering was tangible - misery was in the air for all of the dogs at the deplorable facility. Ben, a sensitive dog by sheer virtue of his breed, a German shepherd, suffered more than physical damage - he developed fear and anxiety that is hampering his ability to be placed.

The Gentle Barn is caring for Ben. They are looking for a special home for this devastated soul. Their ultimate hope is that a person can adopt Ben from the get go.

They do not want to put him through the trauma of bonding to a foster family and then losing yet another emotional attachment when he is finally adopted. Ben is broken inside.

The Gentle Barn is searching for a family that has no other pets. A family that is experienced with dogs. A family that is patient and willing to work with an emotionally traumatized dog.

This is a tall request, but a necessary one - necessary for Ben and necessary for the safety of others. Ben has lost his trust in people and dogs - only time, love and patience will remedy his emotional wounds.

Knowing that finding this special family will be difficult, The Gentle Barn is requesting that Ben's information be shared far and wide - hopefully the "one" right person will see Ben, read about his predicament, and have the means to help him.

Interested individuals are asked to email The Gentle Barn at ellie@gentlebarn.org. Most people that read this story will not be in the position to help, but you can do something - take just a moment of your time to share Ben's story and ask others to do so as well. The internet reaches far and wide - somewhere out there is the person that is right for Ben.

Oh Penny, what a heartbreaking story. Lord, please take Ben in your arms and comfort him and make him well again. Let Ben know that there is a perfect family that will be found to adopt him who will love and cherish him for the rest of his life. I will keep Ben in my prayers and hope for a speedy adoption so he can begin his healing.

I will be glad to share this on facebook! I hope someone can adopt Ben soon. I would love to, but we have one dog and are in the process of moving - probably to an apartment, so it's not ideal to have a second dog at this time. Ben looks so sweet and precious. I pray that he finds a happy home soon!

    @ Beth ~ amen!
I certainly will share to help Ben find a good home. I do want to ask how being held in a cage is less traumatic than a loving foster home? I think that he needs the extra loving care of a family, and pray that he is taken in soon.
