'A Different World' stars reunite on 'Scandal,' TVD fans loathe Maya's new man

"A Different World" diehard fans will always get excited seeing cast members work together. Khandi Alexander, who plays Olivia Pope's mother, is on "Scandal." And she is a nightmare of a mother, but she still managed to spend over two decades in prison and come out in a few episodes with a new man, Mikael (played by Sebastian Roché).

"A Different World" enthusiasts may still be calling Joe Morton (who plays Rowan "Daddy Pope") a name he'll always be famous for: Byron Douglas III. Whitley Gilbert left that poor man at the altar to marry Dwayne Wayne, and ADW supporters were happy and sad at the same time. And Morton is still a delight to see onscreen, although his character Rowan has a lot to learn about fatherhood but excels at being a killer (responsible for 183 people to be exact).

Morton was on "A Different World" in 1992, but Alexander (who played Theressa Stone on "A Different World") was on a few years before him in 1989 so they may be meeting for the first time. Alexander is probably lesser known for that part and far more recognizable from "Poetic Justice" and "What's Love Got to Do With It?" fans, but that still doesn't change the fact that the worst TV married couple ever can add "Scandal" to their resume similarities.

And judging from their knife dual at the table on Thursday night's episode, "The Fluffer," there's a zip zero chance that Maya and Rowan will ever rekindle the flame. But evil meets evil in the form of Maya Lewis dating Mikael, and "The Vampire Diaries" watchers recognize him as yet another dreadful father. Roche didn't even bother to have a name change.

(Editor's Note: On Thurs., April 10, during the "Flesh and Blood" episode, Mikael's other name was mentioned as Dominic Bell.)

He's as evil on "Scandal" under the name Mikael as he is on "The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries," regularly torturing his own vampire-werewolf son Klaus.

The characters on their own are all exciting people, as well as the real actors behind the TV names. But to see the worst of the worst (in a good way) come together to wreak even more havoc on "Scandal" is worth every minute of the show.
