‘A Different World’ actor Lou Myers dies

Actor Lou Myers known to fans as the advice-dispensing Mr. Gaines on the Emmy nominated and hit 80s sitcom “A Different World” has died. On Thursday People Magazine reported the veteran character actor succumbed in his native West Virginia following a battle with pneumonia.

Actress and choreographer Debbie Allen who served as a director and producer for the show remembered Myers on her twitter page.

“It was my good fortune to work with him and better yet to know him. He was an inspiration to all of us and he will truly be missed. We will always think of him with great joy and will forever speak his name. LOU MYERS, LOU MYERS, LOU MYERS...

In addition to television, Myers also starred on the stage and screen. He appeared in Oprah Winfrey’s “The Color Purple” and in the films “The Wedding Planner” opposite Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey , “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” starring Angela Bassett, Taye Diggs and Whoopie Goldberg, Warren Beatty’s “Bulworth”, “The Fighting Temptations’ with Beyonce and the television movies “ The Piano Lesson”, “Mama Flora’s Family” and “Lackawanna Blues”.

Lou Myers was 76.
