A Day to Honor our Soldiers

See also

On this Memorial Day weekend, many are traveling and planning cookouts and beach outings. This time of year brings the excitement that summer is right around the corner. However, this is also a time to remember those who have given their lives for this country as well as those fighting for our freedom today.

Tallahassee has quite a few activities planned for this holiday, including opening the local pools and aquatic centers for children and adults alike, to enjoy the warm weather yet keep cool at the same time. The area is also crowded with those who decided to stay in town and gather with family and friends for picnics at area parks as well as cookouts throughout the community.

Tallahassee is also celebrating by remembering veterans and other men and women fighting around the world. While hundreds gathered in Perry, not far from Tallahassee to remember soldiers who have lost their lives as well as recognize surviving veterans. It is important to take time out to shake a soldier’s hand or stop and have a conversation to let them know that their work is not and has not gone unnoticed.

Let us continue to honor the men and women who have given their lives for freedom, and are continuing to fight for that freedom every day.
