Condoleezza Rice was born in Birmingham, Alabama into a world that still practiced segregation and discrimination against people of color like her. Condoleezza’s mother was a high school oratory teacher and her dad was a minister.
Her folks wanted the best for their only child so by age three she was studying music, dance, and learning French! Her aspirations were to become a professional pianist.
Fast forward to her college days when she came to the realization that her music career dream was not to become a reality. She attended a political science class out of pure curiosity. Bingo! She was hooked!
Several years later she obtained a doctorate degree in Political Science she settled into the academic world becoming a professor of Political Science and a recognized expert on Russian politics…and then came a turning point in her life.
President H.W. Bush needed her expertise regarding his dealings with the Russian leaders Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin. Condoleezza became the first female National Security Advisor, serving the White House from 2001 to 2005.
From 2005 to 2009 she continued her government service accepting a position as the sixty-sixth United States Secretary of State in the administration of President George Bush…she had helped H.W. Bush (41) and signed on to help his son, George Bush (43).
After the new administration took office Ms. Rice returned to academia but stayed active politically.
And now another presidential candidate may soon ask for her help. Condi’s name is currently being floated as a possible Vice Presidential running mate on the Republican ticket in 2012.
If this ticket was elected she would become the first female Vice President in the history of the country.
So far she has declined the opportunity…but for this pioneer of women’s equality it may be hard to refuse!
History is calling…will she make history again?
