It is a question our friends over at Huffinton Post asked this week, "is cursing good for your health?" Like all good news sources they researched the studies available on the topic and found two in support of using curse words to keep you healthy and two against it (all four you can view here). It is like most things today, you can find evidence to support or debunk whatever claim you want to make.
However, it does make you ask the question, "is it?" Perhaps the answer is not necessarily in the actual curse word but more about the releasing of the emotion and/or energy behind the word. It goes along with the idea of perception and belief. If you were raised to believe the sky is yellow instead of blue would you believe it is yellow? If you were told not to use something would you get a rush of adrenaline when you do use it despite the fact that it is bad for you? If you were told not to say the word "Shazam" because it is derogatory would you get the same rush from using it as if you said the word "S**t?"
If you believe the above statements you could use any word in your vocabulary to say to help reduce the emotion and/or energy behind the word - not just curse words. So does cursing really help reduce your stress levels and make you healthier? Or is it just an excuse to allow you to do something you should not do?
The other question would fall in line with the ones before, is it the word or the emotion behind it? When a person curses they generally say the word with more feeling and enunciate the word allowing their voice to reflect the emotion behind it. So does a person who curses frequently have a weaker vocabulary? Can't a person express your emotions with more words to get the same point across?
