We are in a day of rapid change, churches who were once Bible-believing have changed, by using other methods of bringing people to church. This actually started when Christians suddenly started using one of the many modern English translations of the Bible (NASB, NIV, NEB, NRSV, NKJV, ESV, and many more) abandoning the long-used King James Version, read and loved by English-speaking people of all ages and walks of life for over many generations that have been since it was published in 1611. But this creationist loves and only uses the King James Bible, because it was developed by 54 translators who were godly men who believed strongly in the inerrancy and full authority of Scriptures and who, therefore, believed in the literal historicity of Genesis, with its record of six-day Creation and the worldwide Flood in Noah's day. This has not been true of many who have been involved in producing the modern versions.
These translators of the King James Authorized Version 1611, had spiritual motivations and convictions indicated by their fascinating preface entitled "The Translators to the Reader". Miles Smith who became Bishop of Gloucester in 1612, was the last man to review the translation and was selected to write the "Translators Preface". Here is a brief excerpt to this essay : "The Scriptures then being acknowledged to be full and perfect, how can we excuse ourselves of negligence, if we do not study them? Or if we be not content with them? It is not only an armor, but also a whole armory of weapons, both offensive and defensive; whereby we may save ourselves and put the enemy to flight. It is not an herb, but a tree or rather a whole paradise of trees of life, which bring forth fruit every month, and the fruit thereof is for meat, and the leaves for medicine. It is a foundation of most pure water springing up into everlasting life, and what marvel? The original thereof being from heaven, not from earth; the author being God, not man; the Editor, the Holy Spirit, not the wit of the Apostles or Prophets; the Penmen such as were sanctified from the womb, and endued with a principal portion of God's Spirit; the matter, verity, piety, purity, uprightness; the form, God's word, God's testimony, God's oracles, the word of truth, the word of salvation, etc.; the effects, light of understanding, stableness of persuasion, repentance from dead works, newness of life, holiness, peace, joy in the Holy Ghost; lastly, the end and reward of the study thereof, fellowship with the saints, participation of the heavenly nature, fruition of the inheritance immortal, undefiled, and that shall never fade away, happy is the man that delighteth in the Scripture, and thrice happy that meditateth in it day and night" (Miles Smith, selected to write translator's preface).
For a long time, the "official" English version used in each Bible-believing church was the King James Version. But now, however, confusion reigns. Congregational unison reading of the Bible is no longer possible, and church members often do not even bring their Bibles to church. The pastor of these type of churches preaches from one version and the people in the congregation each have a different version of their own, so they cannot follow the pastor anyway, and thus they just listen, and soon forget. Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ is not the Author of confusion. "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints" (I Corinthians 14:33).
I believe therefore, after reading, studying, and loving the Bible for over 28 years, that Christians, especially creationists, need to hang on to their old King James Bible as long as they live. God has uniquely blessed it in the history of England and America, in the great revivals, in the worldwide missionary movement, and in the personal lives of believers since 1611. The King James Bible is the most beautiful, the most powerful, and I "strongly believe" the only book for the English-speaking people to have until our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ returns! It is the "sword of the Spirit" (Ephesians 6:17) and is sharper than any two-edged sword. "For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword. Piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12).
As a creationist, I "earnestly contend for the faith" (Jude 3), using the King James Bible from Genesis 1 : 1 to Revelation 22 : 21. The 66 books (39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament) are our guide in the last days of the Church age (Dispensation of Grace) before the Lord Jesus Christ comes in the Rapture (Translation of the Church) for His saints before the 7 year tribulation comes upon the Earth (Revelation 3:10). "I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name " (Revelation 3:8).
