A chat with SoulCrafts Comics writer Michael Geszel

WonderCon weekend is in full swing! WonderCon celebrates 25 years this weekend and it seems as though turning a page is so old school in this iPad world.

Some are taking this weekend to show how the genres of comics are embracing new technology. SoulCrafts Comics writer Michael Geszel was on hand to promote his latest graphic novel, ‘Tribes: The Dog Years.’  The sci-fi epic is an iPad-only digital graphic novel. Geszel says he imagined ‘Tribes: The Dog Years’ as a digital novel from the beginning, ‘I think the tablet format is a great reading, viewing experience, With the iPad at least, it is a brilliant screen, brilliant color and I think it is made for comics and made for art.’ Geszel says he has expanded to digital formats, not necessarily leaving written formats behind, 'The idea was always to take it into as many different media as possible. It is the core story and then trying to get it, to expose it in as many formats as possible.' Geszel, among others at WonderCon, is embracing this new technology because it may mean more readers in the long run, 'The point is there is more choice for the reader... It is flexibility, it is story telling with options.'

The tome was co-written by Michael Geszel and Peter Spinetta, illustrations by Inaki Miranda. The sci-fi tale takes you to a time when a nano-virus has shortened the human lifespan to 21 years, or has it? A discovery by the Sundog of the Sky Shadows tribe may change everything.

IDW has released the graphic novel as a part of their iPad-only Digital Graphic Novel line.
