A celebration of winter at Adkins Arboretum

Adkins Arboretum is kicking off the Holiday season on Saturday, December 3, 2011, with a full day of celebration for the entire family. Their annual greens sale will feature the Arboretum’s signature hand-crafted wreaths, topiaries, swags, roping and cut greenery. If you prefer to make your own, experts will lead workshops in making swags, table top centerpieces and window boxes as well as providing wonderful ideas for other outdoor decorating. Children can make decorations that provide a holiday treat to welcome wildlife into your backyard.

If that’s not reason enough to visit, there will be a celebration of lights, music and sweet and savory fare after dark at the ‘Tis the Season Holiday Evening.’ Celebrate in true Eastern Shore fashion by taking a hayride around the meadow or singing carols along the guided walks lit by luminaria. Oh, and don’t forget the hot cider and bonfire!

Adkins Arboretum is a 400 acre living museum located in Ridgely, Maryland and is about an hour and a half drive from Baltimore City. It is the only arboretum or public garden in the Mid-Atlantic region to focus solely on plants native to the Mid-Atlantic Coastal Plains. With over 600 species of native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, grasses and ferns, there is something new to experience at any time of the year. Programs are offered year round for all ages and interests.  Other amenities include a gift and book shop, native plant sales and art exhibits.
