A Cedartown woman is under arrest after assaulting a police officer as he was placing her under arrest.
On Tuesday, Cedartown Police Officer Andre Nicholson was on patrol when he spotted a female walking on the railroad tracks at South Main headed towards Cedartown. The officer stopped to inform the woman that the railroad tracks are considered private property and pedestrians are not allowed to walk on the tracks.
The officer recognized the woman and knew that there was an outstanding warrant for her arrest regarding a shoplifting incident that occurred at Kroger on Monday.
The officer asked for identification which confirmed that she was in fact the female named in the warrant. She was informed that she was under arrest and asked to place her hands behind her back.
As the officer attempted to place the handcuffs on the woman, she began to struggle. She grabbed the officer's uniform and ripped a button from the shirt during her brief struggle to break free.
Kimberly Winell Collum, 42, of Cedartown was arrested by Cedartown Police Officer Nicholson and charged with theft by shoplifting, interference with government property, felony obstruction and simple battery on a law enforcement officer and parole violation.
