A cat's stance and carriage corresponds to his/her emotions. Their postures can be gracious or antagonistic, fearful or friendly, depending upon the situation.
When a feline is in a tranquil position, he she is generally lying on his/her side or sitting. Kitty’s breathing is at a slow to normal pace, with legs bowed. When standing, the hind legs are extended. The tail is freely wrapped, extended, or held up.
When a feline is in a vigilant position he/she is lying on his/her stomach or sitting comfortably. The feline’s back is nearly horizontal when he/she is standing and moving. Breathing is normal. The tail is straight or curved back, sometimes with a little twitching.
When kitty is in a stressed position, he/she is laying on his/her stomach, with the back part of the body lower than its upper part of the body. When standing or moving back, there is a slinking motion. The tail is close to the body, on edge or curled down; there can be trembling when the cat is standing up.
When a cat is in a fretful position, kitty cat is laying on his/her stomach, the back of the body is noticeably lower than the front part; this is also true when the cat is standing or moving. Breathing may be faster than normal. The tail is very close to the body and may be curled forward when kitty stands up. The tip of the tail may move from side to side or up and down.
When a feline is in a worried position, he/she is lying on his/her belly or hunkered down straight on top of his/her paws. If standing up, the whole body may be trembling and extremely near the ground... Breathing is also rapid, legs bent near the plane, and tail curled and extremely close to his/ her body.
When kitty is in a petrified posture, he she is crouched unswervingly on top of his/her paws, with evident shaking in the body. The tail is tucked close to the body and fur stands up on end. The legs are especially stiff, sometimes bent to increase their size. Characteristically, cats avoid contact when they feel threatened, but they can opt to varying degrees of aggression when they are cornered, or when escape is unfeasible
