Wouldn't it be nice to finally have a show in America where the Filipino culture is in the forefront? For the creators of the Minny Pacquiao cartoon, they hope to make that happen soon.
The Youtube comedy sketch show Minny Pacquiao, a show about Manny Pacquiao's shortest biggest fan is on its way to becoming a cartoon thanks to a group of Filipinos that are dedicated to prove that a show based on Filipino culture can be widely accepted.
It's certainly not far fetched to expect that since one of the more popular cartoons in America is Diego and Dora, who are both based on children with Hispanic ancestry. Actually both characters even speak some Spanish on the cartoon. Can you imagine American children saying,"Ayos!!" instead of "Activate" which they do when watching Diego.
Actually, it can even be the Filipino version of the Simpsons. Remember, the Simpsons started as part of the Tracy Ullman show, where a few snippet of the cartoon would be shown in between scenes.
Why not show snippets of it, in between Pacquiao's sitcom or better yet during the 24/7 to promote his fight. In fact the cast of the show had already been invited to cover one of Top Rank's events.
The creators of the show even envisions the character Minny Pacquiao as a tool to promote Manny even more to the masses.
Why not? Minny Pacquiao can be like Lil Penny was for Penny Hardaway or Mars Blackmon was for Jordan. Can you imagine having commercial with a Pinoy flavor becoming a classic and being remembered by people worldwide? I could and it's about time.
Read an excerpt of my interview with the star of the show Erick Esteban below:
OS: how did you get the idea of turning your show into a cartoon?
EE: Tim Saguinsin of Ricecooker Studios sent me an email with a cartoon of Minny Pacquiao in it and I almost fainted. True Story.
OS: What is the cartoon about and why should people watch it?
EE: Minny Pacquiao is a FIL-AM character that is trying to capture the "American Filipino Experience" and our goal as a production is to educate while we entertain. So we want to showcase the beauty of our Filipino culture and heritage through the wide eyes of Minny Pacquiao and as a cartoon the possibilities are endless.
OS: What can people expect from the cartoon and when can people expect to watch full episodes?
EE: Cartoons take money lots of money and time. We have very little of either. So we are in search of Fil-Am and Filipino investors alike. The faster we can get someone to help us produce the episodes the faster you'll get to see them.

I'm sorry, but as a Filipino who loves both his own culture and the American one, I don't believe that "Minny Pacquiao" will be a success. Here are the reasons:
1. In order to capture the American (and other) audience, the show must not only focus on the life of one person. There has to be variety, and this is why the "family" type of show is produced more often, where there can readily be an assortment of characters.
2. Minny Pacquiao is based on a boxer, or at least a super Manny Pacquiao fanatic. If the focus is just on his addiction to all things Pacquiao, then the story will be very limited by this. It becomes an unwanted anchor.
3. The whole plan of making a cartoon out of "Minny Pacquiao" seems like a case of riding the popularity train. Sure, Manny Pacquiao is a very famous boxer, but boxing isn't exactly the mega sport it once was in America, so interest in it would be affected.
For a Filipino show to be successful, it has to be ORIGINAL with good production values
and why go on another retirement??
boxing has given a lot to Floyd, its time for Floyd to give what boxing needs.. and more importantly, give the fightfans what they need....
actually i know one of the guys on the show. they cover different events. and the cartoon will not be reliant on Pacquiao and will have numerous different characters and different topics to show the filipino culture and their life in America.
It would be wise if somebody used your good name for political gain would be stopped. Am talking about the cancellation of your meeting with Harry Reid. I believe you don't even know about this write ups and its consequences. Remember this is America. It is wiser if you side with no one. Stop politicising your boxing career, it is good for your health over-all. Ask Bob Arum he is the right person to enlighten you.
Many Success stories are spawn from the so called "popularity train" such as music, fashion, and just a brand alone. Get your message out eric and keep your vision open for change and never take your heart out of your work. You and your crew are a talented group. Success is your destiny brotha......
@thoughtsharing; ido agree with you 100 per cent.. i hope it come up with good plan. i hope it will push trough and be successfull in American mainstream.. kudus to those who made it posible.
why a chartoon character of PacMan fan and not Pacquiao himself? I think it would be more interesting doing a cartoon on Pacquiao. A somewhat caricature image in a motion picture. If you created a story line based on his life story but a little touch of humor, I think that would catch the attention of the public. Many fans are not so familiar of what Pacquiao has experience so why not make a cartoon series out of it. I think you can also catch a moral lesson on the experiences of Pacquiao.
the tribe has spoken... vox populi... vox dei...
