A call to create a Rolling Thunder for Isaac Bonewits

Many people in the Pagan community are painfully aware of the fact that Isaac Bonewits, a famous neo-Pagan, has been fighting cancer.  Recent reports from family and friends indicate that Isaac is no longer strong enough to endure chemotherapy.  At this point, he needs a miracle.

Phaedra Bonewits, Isaac's wife, is calling Pagans across the nation and around the world to weave their magic together to create that miracle.

Phaedra Bonewits is calling for a Rolling Thunder healing ritual on the night of the Full Moon -- May 27, 2010 -- at 9pm local time.

A Rolling Thunder ritual is one which starts on the east coast of the United States (for example) and moves through each time zone until it reaches the west coast.

  • People participating on the east coast do their part of the ritual at 9pm Eastern Time.
  • People participaing in the central time zone do their part of the ritual at 9pm Central Time.
  • People on the west coast do their part of the ritual at 9pm Pacific Time.

The result is a powerful energy that rolls across the country and around the world like a massive thunderstorm rolling through the atmosphere.

Phaedra Bonewits is stipulating only a few simple considerations in the format of the ritual.  The first, already mentioned, is that your ritual begin at 9pm in your own time zone.  The other element of the ritual that she would like all participants to include in the following chant:

Isaac's tumors fade away.  Thirty more years with Phae."

Other than that, create your ritual according to your own spiritual tradition.  What healing techniques and magical techniques you employ are entirely up to you.

Again, the Rolling Thunder Healing Ritual for Isaac Bonewits on the night of the Full Moon, Thursday, May 27, 2010 at 9pm local time.

When you have finished your contribution to this far-reaching ritual, please e-mail Isaac and Phaedra Bonewits.  Your e-mail is welcome -- this is one they will find comfort in, after all.  E-mail Phaedra directly at the following e-mail: phaedra at neopagan dot net.  (The e-mail is pulled apart to protect it from internet bots.  Please replace the word "at" with the usual "@" symbol and the word "dot" with the usual period.  Then push all the letters and symbols together to recreate the proper e-mail address.)

The following information about Isaac Bonewits was sent in an e-mail by someone who knows him far better than I ever will.  For that reason, I have chosen to share it in this column just as it was shared in the e-mail.

Isaac Bonewits is one of North America's leading experts on ancient and modern Druidism, Witchcraft and the rapidly growing Earth Religions movement.

A practicing Neopagan priest, scholar, teacher, bard, and polytheologian for over 35 years, he has coined much of the vocabulary and articulated many of the issues that have shaped the rapidly growing Neopagan community in the United States and Canada, with opinions both playful and controversial.

As the author of several books including Real Magic, Authentic Thaumaturgy, Witchcraft, Neopagan Rites, and The Pagan Man, numerous articles, reviews and essays, many songs and albums, and "spellbinding" lectures, he has educated, enlightened and entertained two generations of modern Goddess worshippers, nature mystics, and followers of other minority belief systems, and has explained these movements to journalists, law enforcement officers, college students, and academic researchers.

Isaac is the Founder and Archdruid Emeritus of Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship (the best known Neopagan Druid organization based in North America), a 3° Druid within the United Ancient Order of Druids (the best known Mesopagan Druid order), a retired High Priest in both the Gardnerian ("British Orthodox") and the N.R.O.O.G.D. ("California Heterodox") traditions of Wicca (Neopagan Witchcraft), an initiate of Santeria (Afro-Cuban Mesopaganism) and the "Caliphate Line" of the Ordo Templi Orientis (Aleister Crowley's Mesopagan magical tradition), as well as a member of other Neopagan and Mesopagan Druid orders.

He has been a member of the Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans (CUUPS) for three years. Having survived four previous spouses (and vice versa), on July 23, 2004 he was handfasted to CUUPS co-founder, tarot expert, writer, and Wiccan Priestess, Phaedra Heyman Bonewits (hope springs eternal).

Articulate, witty, yet scholarly, Isaac is currently writing books on Druidism, Witchcraft, Neopaganism, dualism, and polytheology.

Isaac wishes it officially known that he is not "A Pagan Spiritual Leader," but merely one of the Neopagan movement's better-known Unindicted Co-conspirators. ..

Folks, Isaac has given much to magickal communities the world over. We can certainly give this gift back to him. Please forward this to your tribes and Circles.

May the Goddess weave this miracle on his behalf.

This examiner can only echo Beth's request....

May the Goddess weave this miracle indeed.  So mote it be.

The e-mail address in the article should end with dot net rather than dot com. I have made the change to the article in the publishing software, but I do not know how long it will take before the software updates the website. Sorry.
