It's been a very busy couple of weeks for Cleveland's sports teams. Here are how they all line up.
The Browns signed defensemen Paul Kruger, Desmond Bryant, and Quintin Grove All of a sudden, their defense looks incredible. With the presence of Joe Haden and a secondary that performed very well last season, this great pass rushing defense will be sure to impress fans this season. Many can't wait to see the new Browns and what they can do. More free agency signings are expected today, but the Browns have shown up as clear winners thus far.
The Cavaliers are finishing strong down the stretch, but that might not be enough to put them in playoff contention this season. They take on the Indiana Pacers tonight, and are on the brink of elimination. Cavaliers fans are also being encouraged to cheer on the Lakers as they move towards the playoffs, and here's why.
The Lakers and Heat are involved in a trade deal that gives us a first round pick in the upcoming NBA draft. If the Lakers fail to make the playoffs, the Cavaliers will get Miami's first round pick, which is expected to be around 30. If the Lakers reach the playoffs, the Cavaliers would get their pick instead of Miami's, which falls in the middle of the field around the 15-20 range. Higher picks mean better players, so go Lakers!
The Indians are looking great in spring training. Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher, and Carlos Santana are ready to make some noise, and with the home opener just around the corner, all eyes are on the newly reorganized Tribe. Home opener tickets sold out in just 6 minutes, and fans are ready to go for this season in hopes of a renaissance back to the glory days of the 90s, when the Indians were one of the best teams in baseball.
The Lake Erie Monsters lost a tough one late to division leading Toronto yesterday, however the Monsters are still in playoff contention as we move towards the end of the AHL season. Let's hope they catch fire quick!
The Canton Charge continue to impress despite a couple of losses recently to Bakersfield and Erie. They still lead the division and look to make another great playoff run this season.
The Cleveland Gladiators season kicks off this Sunday at 1pm, and it looks to be another great season of AFL action. Tickets are still available at the team website, and all fans 14 and under get in free with the purchase of an adult ticket for the home opener, so bring your whole family to cheer on the Gladiators!
That's all for this update! News will be on the way soon as the NBA draft approaches and NFL free agency continues.
