A TV show cancelled in 2011 is finding new life as a feature-length film.
THR learned yesterday that Jonathan Ames is writing a script for a big screen adaptation of the HBO show “Bored to Death.”
The show featured a fictional character based loosely on Ames’ life, Jonathan Ames (played by Jason Schwartzman (“Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”)), as a Brooklyn-based writer turned amateur detective-for-hire who sleuthed his way through sidesplitting scandals and goofy mysteries.
His shenanigans were assisted by his two friends Ray (Zach Galifianakis) and George (Ted Danson).
Ames has since revealed in the film they will reunite to fight crime, commit crime, lose their minds, and fail-at-love in a “Bored to Death” feature-length slapstick adventure.
While I never saw the show I can only imagine that it was quite hilarious (some of my friends swore it was amazing), and pieces of the plot have been slipping out thanks to Danson.
In the film we can expect Jonathan to become a police officer (giving him actual crime fighting authority), and Ray and George will become roommates.
Even without seeing the show this sounds like an abstract and amazing combination, and I might pick this series up on DVD based just on the film plot.
