A big weekend for pooches and their people

There's lots of great stuff going on this weekend for you and your pets. And lots of ways you can help other dogs and their people. So check out the events and get out there for some fun!

MULTI-DAY EVENTS

Friday, April 23 – Monday, April 26, 2010, Charity Poker Event to benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind, 10:00 pm – 2:00 am, Benny's Charity Poker Room, 48762 Van Dyke, Shelby Twp., MI. Benny's Charity Poker Room is donating 50% of the proceeds raised to Leader Dogs for the Blind. Games include poker, blackjack, craps, roulette and more — including daily Texas Hold 'em tournaments. April 24 – 25, 2010, West Michigan Pet Expo, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm Saturday and 10:00 am – 5:00 pm Sunday, Deltaplex Conference Center, Grand Rapids, MI. The West Michigan Pet Expo is West Michigan’s premiere pet event, with 50 plus displayers, around the clock entertainment, and seminars designed to appeal to all levels and types of pet owners. In addition to a display area, the West Michigan Pet Expo also features an Adoption Area manned by a number of West Michigan area shelters, two entertainment stages seminars as well as animal entertainment designed to appeal to the entire family. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Ages 5 and under are admitted free. $2 dollar off discount coupons are available at a number of locations throughout West Michigan.

Saturday, April 24

Music & Mirth to benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind, 7:30 pm, Leo's Sports Bar & Grill, 40380 Grand River Ave., Novi, MI. Enjoy great music, dancing and laughter for a great cause! First Annual Always Hope Dog Walk, 11:00 am – 3:00 pm, Waldenwoods Recreation Resort, 2975 Old US 23, Hartland, MI ($3 entrance fee per car). Collect pledges from your family and friends. All pledge walkers receive a free lunch and gift bag. Door prize drawing for all pledge collectors (you need not be present to win). Minimum pledge $25.00. Pledges over $100 receive an Always Hope T-shirt.

Bark For Life of Taylor 2010, Rotary Park (Telegraph Road behind State Police Post), Taylor, MI. Earlybird registration $10 each dog; Day of registration will be $15.00. Registration includes a BFL bandana, and some other fun stuff! Bark For Life t-shirts will be sold and there will be a concession stand with snacks and beverages, as well as vendor tables with fun stuff for sale! Sunday April 25

It's A Dogs Life sponsored by Michigan Pug Rescue and Pro Plan Rally to Rescue, 12:00 noon – 5 pm, Costick Center, 11 Mile Rd. (east of Middlebelt Rd.), Farmington Hills, MI. The event will consist of pet adoptions from local rescue groups, pet vendors of all types, veterinary services, entertainment, contests, and refreshments. There will be hourly demonstrations, such as police dogs, ATF dogs, trainers, agility demonstrations, "Best pet trick" contest and many more.
