This out of site bar is very an appealing, cozy bar that hasn’t even had its Grand Opening yet… that’s how new it is. Although it is fresh to Austin, the locals of the Guadalupe and 17th area already know it. A small room with two tables that seat 2, four that seat 4, and one that seat 6, hug the walls of the bar. As you walk in, there is the main bar with smiling bartenders ready to serve you your beer or mixed drinks.
The aura of Dive really is nice. The first time I went in was just for a shot with some people that work at the Dog and Duck… I had to go back again. So, I sat in and had a very cold beer to get the feel of the place, a day or so later. As I sat at the rich wooden tables with a tiny candle lit, I felt comfortable and content. Definitely a place you can go by yourself to meet new friends or go with friends. The ceilings are high and the lighting is low. The music was also low… and low as in a good decibel for actually visiting with the people around you. The music varied with a good vibe of chill-mode music. Mostly songs that I didn’t know, which I like- I’m not one for the main stream.
A point of interest for Dive, besides the already chill, kosher environment, is if you are in the service industry then you get a discount. Just come in in uniform or have some sort of proof that you are a bartender or waiter/waitress. I can’t tell you what the discount is… you’ll have to go in for your self to check it out! But it is well worth it. While I was visiting Dive, I had a chance to talk to one of two owners, Ivan- the other is Jim. As I spoke with Ivan, I found out why Dive has such a great atmosphere, it was because of the owners. Owners that give as much as they can to a business get it all back. Good owners=good place of business. That is a fact here at Dive. I asked Ivan why he gives the service industry a discount, and he simply replied, “ We foster to the service industry because they are the ones who keep the city going. We are in the industry as well, we know how it goes working for tips, we work hard… and were here to serve the people as well. “
Nicely put, my good sir! And I will thank you in advance for all of the people who come in and recognize what a gem you have here! So please go check it out if you had a great day, a bad day, a chill day, want to visit with friends, or are just plain bored… go say hello the Ivan or Jim and have a nice cold beverage.
