A Baltimore style tribute to Memphis garage rock artist found dead this morning

News broke this afternoon that garage/punk rock artist Jay Reatard (Jimmy Lee Lindsey, Jr.) was found dead in his home in Memphis, TN this morning. The cause for his death is still unknown, but reports have stated that he died in his sleep. He was only 29 years old.

Released in August 2009, his newest record Watch Me Fall (Matador Records), was the first full-length released since Blood Visions (In the Red Records) in October 2006. He had released many singles on vinyl over the last few years between recording a cover of the song "Gamma Ray" for Beck on the B side of the single in addition to recently opening for The Pixies. Below, I've included a video of Jay Retard playing the song "Trapped Here" the last time he performed in Baltimore, which was October 3, 2009. I didn't record this video, but I was at the performance and will always remember the restless, excited look on his face as he waited on the side of the Ottobar stage as the Oakland punk band Nobunny got the crowd going.
