The A/B Duo consists of flutist Meerenai Shim and percussionist Chris Jones. They began working together in the basement practice rooms of Symphony Center in Chicago in the spring of 2012. Since then they have been commissioning and championing new works that contribute to the flute and percussion repertoire. Next month they will be visiting the Center for New Music and will present three representative compositions.
The program will begin with “Echoloquacious” by Matthew Joseph Payne, scored for flutes of different sizes, vibraphone, drum set, and Game Boy. This will be followed by a composition by Ivan Trevino, drummer for the rock band Break of Reality, entitled “Things We Dream About,” also scored for multiple flutes, vibraphone, and drum set. The program will conclude with the duet for piccolo and percussion, “metalStaind,” by Adam Cuthbért.
This performance will take place at the Center for New Music, 55 Taylor Street. It will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 27. Tickets are $20 with a $10 rate for members of the Center. Information about membership may be found on the Membership Web page of the Center’s Web site.
