99er’s are two weeks into 2011, with still no promise of any type of help by way of an 99ers unemployment extension any time soon. Today a sad article appears talking about what the 99ers fear most now, that is death, according to Rant Rave.
It appears that a 99er wrote this article and talks about all the fears the 99ers use to have, which have all been realized and now history. They have nothing more to fear but death at this point in time, according to Rant Rave. From Connecticut to California, what the 99er’s have endured due to a loss of income, will never show up in statistics, they are a population that has basically been forgotten.
It is true that many 99ers once feared home foreclosures, car repossessions, and eviction notices. Many have had this happen, so they no longer have those fears hanging over their heads.
Rant Rave says their fears have gotten bigger, fears of dying from starvation, overdoses, or by the many other ways that people who are down and out die. This article is very depressing, but unfortunately, it is true. Many of the fears that once plagued the 99ers are gone because they have already lived through them.
The number for the suicide hot line appears on the home page of most every reputable 99ers information website. This is a very telling sign. How can this country have let this problem go on for as long as it has?
Although an attempt has been made once again to get a 99er’s unemployment extension into Congress, it will not even surface on the floor until March. This is months away, this is just dangling a carrot for the 99ers, a carrot that may be shriveled up and dried out by then.
Nothing of great importance has been put forwards for the 99ers of this nation. The number of 99er’s is not even known, which is now changing with the new stats the Department of Labor are keeping. This is way late in the game, but it is a start in giving the 99ers some substance by at least numbering their population.
Connecticut Department of Labor reports the unemployment rate holds steady at 9% these last few weeks, but with the new stats the will be available starting in February, this is bound to go up, as is the rest of the country’s numbers. February will be the first time statistics are available for the long term unemployed, or the 99ers.
The Labor Department is finally tracking the numbers on this population. Before now, once your unemployment benefits were exhausted, you just went into the abyss and were no longer tracked. This was convenient for a government that was not paying any attention to the 99ers, but this will change now, these large numbers cannot be ignored.

How do people continue to go about their daily lives knowing (or maybe they don't know) that so many of their friends and neighbors are suffering so badly and our government or political leaders choose to just ignore these people like they do not even exist and choose to not comment on them or acknowledge what these citizens of the USA are going through right now. Our leaders are quick to comment or discuss just about anything else no matter how mundane as long as it gets peoples minds off the 5 - 10 million 99ers with no help or hope from the only people (our political leaders) that can provide help for them. Look at the media outlets TV, Radio, Newspapers, our political leaders that keep stating that the unemployment rate is 9.4% when it really is more like 20 - 25% and growing. I am so disgusted with our current political leaders from top to bottom for turning their backs on the 99ers (our brothers and sisters, freinds and neighbors, past co-workers fellow American citizens) especially when they give billions and billions and billions away to wealthy constituents and then scream poor house when it comes to helping working class people in dire need during this economic catastrophe. God bless us all!
People have been doing it for decades to homeless people. 99ers just expect more help when there isn't anymore. Homeless have been dealing with it a hell of a lot longer.

Out of all of my friends, family, etc...I would say 1 of every 50 even knows what a 99er is. You know why?...I'll tell you as 99ers like you just CANT SEEM TO GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD, so I will help once again to try and make it clear for you and any other 99er who doesn't get it.
To get the govt to act, you have to be seen. Do people walk under bridges, seeking out the homeless to put coins in their cups...NO. BUT, when the homeless are out on the street asking and shaking the cup, they get the coin.
The 99ers are sitting at home behind their PCs, posting on pages where 99% of the people reading are also UE. Instead of posting sob stories...GO OUT AND PROTEST. GO TO DC AND SLEEP ON THE STEPS OF CONGRESS!.
Why can't you 99ers understand this (and though harsh, maybe this is the same reason many cant get hired, is it common sense or intelligence levels). With so many of you, getting 5K to protest in DC is a drop in the bucket.

To the person that said we should just go sleep on the steps of congress in protest, well if we all did that, then they would just say we are not trying still to find a job where we live. I for one have lost my car and have no way to travel from Western North Carolina to DC. Also, while I still have a home that I am behind on rent on, I am trying to stay sheltered during these cold winter months. Your idea is a last resort for me. As far as intellegence goes, I would say that the rich people that caused this are the unintellegent, well maybe not, they just don't care to be simply put. The rest of us were working a full time modest job at one point so shame on your idea. The media refuses to make the 99ers a larger story. People don't like to notice bad news until it is way to late instead of solving problems when they are early. The rich through fraud messed up the whole system without paying a dime for their mistake. Because we suffer and pay the price does that make us unintelligent? The rich got a bailout and a bonus check. We got a time limit with our bail out and we didn't cause the problems and had a job. Most of us are to poor to travel. I don't even have change for the city bus or phone minutes. What have you lost lately?

Is this situation looking more like the "final solution" as time marches on, or will enough of the intelligentsia in the U.S. government finally come to their senses and stop this phony rhetoric, and genuinely try to do something helpful for this corner of the populace? Unfortunately, rationalization is something all humans do instinctively well in order to suit themselves. If the power structure of the government can historically commit thousands of their countrymen to fight wars on foreign soil and place their lives at risk in the name of patriotism, while they themselves are living back home in relative safety and comfort, then the government's turning away from helping those now in need, for a problem of this sort, is likely going to be relatively easy for them to justify. There is no doubt that the government is very adept at disseminating disinformation and engaging in political favoritism at the expense of hurting others. However, the government's pretentiousness in their handling of this matter will eventually come home to roost and then they will have to face the truth and do something effective for their constituents. Hopefully, it will not be too late when that realization of the truth of the matter is finally arrived at, forcing enough congressman to then jump on the humanitarian bandwagon!

As someone who knows the 99ers situation and am also following it...over the past 2 months I have only heard of a few people, like 5, protesting at a local UE office (which does nothing as its the FedGov you need to picket), a lady and a few friends holding some candles (like really, that's the best you can come up with, BUT, at least its some action), and just recently 1 lady got on national news (finally someone who gets it). Other than those 3 things....NOTHING.
You need to get NATIONAL attention. You do this by TRYING. When you call a national station and they give you the run around...don't give up and say you tried...you call them every hour of every day until they give in. If 1% of the millions of 99ers do this...BINGO. Same with a march on DC, many cant get there, but with NYC, Philly, and DC all close, the 99ers in those areas can make it round trip for less than 40 bucks (dont tell me you dont have it, if not, cancel your net or cable for a month). So yeah....LISTEN, but listen to ME, reality.
I have been unemployed for over 99 weeks .And to honest with who ever reads this .I have nothing to lose at this point .I have totally given up on our patriotic way and believe its time to fullfill the prophacy its time to become like animals and fight for what we believe in and that is to change all the two faced 6 digit making clowns in office and clean house. Clearly you have a job or have someone who takes care of you. People like you never cease to make me wonder what kind of purpose you have here on earth.
I have worked since I was 12 CONSISTENTLY. I am educated and skilled in a number of fields, i.e. law, secretarial, flight attendant, recruiter, etc. AND I have been applying for jobs non-stop (for any job at any pay), I went back to school to re-educate myself for yet another field so that I can be my own boss, but that doesn't happen overnight.
What are my responses when I apply for any job until I can build my clientel in my new field? Too old (yes, I am very aware that is illegal, but the loopholes to find out your age are numerous), overqualified, without a job too long.
I will be homeless at the end of this month. I already lost my home some time ago because unemployment doesn't pay mortgages. Thank God for foodstamps, at least I can eat under that bridge, where I will be sleeping.

People think us 99ers are lazy and don't look for jobs. While there are some, most of us look. Most of us are under-qualified, or overqualified. Some are 'too old'... and some don't have the education. Employers can be picky because of the amount of people jobless.

You SAY you will take any job, but we all know you can get a job any time you want...but that might mean taking a mini-wage job and in your mind, you are too good for that and folding pizza boxes is more embarrasing to tell your friends and family than just being UE. Lastly, if you have not gotten UE for over a year, and have nothing in the bank...how did you survive for the past year with no food, shelter, or heat. If you used your monies over the last year and are just NOW broke...then you should have spent money you had 2 months ago to travel to DC. Im not going to come on here and claim i have all the answers, but it seems to me we need to come up with 1 idea that everybody can do. Calling and emailing hasnt worked, how can it if nobody is listening? Protests are a great idea, except when you have to worry about where you are going to sleep and find a shower somewhere and dont have a dime to your name a protest is a bit far fetched. Most of us are people who did nothing but work and pay bills and tried to protect our futures. If somebody has a great idea to get everybody's attenttion and keep it that way, then finally somebody might take notice. I wish i had a great idea for this but right now i dont. I have little time to look for a job on this libary computer and will spend rest of day trying to find somewhere to sleep. Listen folks, newz on the streets is this issue will be addressed once more in March. I don't agree, i think it will become a MAJOR political issue in February when the REAL numbers hit the media. Saw on CNBC tonite that they fully expect this issue to go to the front of the line, and they'll have no choice but to respond to it. Thats good newz for 99ers!!!
Welcome to the new America. Middle class will soon be a thing of the past. They will become the Underclass. The former Middle class will eventually have lower paying jobs, but the competition will be intense, and a good education will not match up to who you know, or if you are attractive, or likeable, did I forget young,. There is one thing, however, that will still prevail. That is ambition to succeed on your own. Many businesses started on a shoestring, and a lot of perspiration, and oh yes...Guts. Waiting around for congress may be a fatal mistake for many on the brink of losing it all. Hope and faith are a good thing, but stark reality cannot be ignored. I am in full agreement that the 99ers need another life preserver called Tier 5 to save millions from drowning, but there does not seem to be anyone in power to see that happen. Lets keep our voices set at a high volume reminding the powers to be that 99ers are counting on the values this country stands for, and not a New America that turns its back on its needy citizens.

I've been on these sites doing whatever I can to break the freeloaders since that last tier was passed. Most of these whiners have gone and never were heard from again while claiming the same things you have. When depression gets so unbearable for you and you still have to deal people putting you down on these sites as a failure and whiner --- believe me your will disappear.
Who pays you to do this, I do this for the ones that can't no more! I feed from their suffering more than my own! They are still out there and there will be justice for them!

sad but true, you are a good and welcome person! Some have a delusion that they think everyone wants the government to provide for them! Some see a persons failures created by themselves and not the environment that surrounds them (blame the victim philosophy)! Some believe the mere pittance for survival outweighs the over-indulgers at the top that are breaking and manipulating laws! Maybe there will not be more benefits, maybe a jobs program or something along those lines, either way there is more than one way to achieve the same or even better results!
