98 Vegas arrests took place as protesters caused quite a disruption in traffic Wednesday (March 20). The 98 protesters were arrested on the Las Vegas Strip during a demonstration against the Cosmopolitan casino according to a report from The Associated Press.
The protest seems to have stemmed from a disagreement between Las Vegas' largest and most powerful union and Cosmopolitan Las Vegas owner Deutsche Bank. The two sides have apparently been in contract talks for two years and the union decided that it was time to start picketing the casino in a very visible way.
In addition to the people blocking the street, there was a crowd estimated at 1,500 people watching. The arrests came after rush hour traffic started getting blocked and both directions of the Strip became impassible for vehicles. Workers participating in the demonstration were also heard to be chanting, "If we don't get no contract, you don't get no peace," before they were taken away by police.
These 98 Vegas arrests may send a message that the union is not ready to back down from negotiations and it may also shine some negative light on the Cosmopolitan casino as well. What is hasn't created yet, is a solution that the two sides can be happy with.
