The City of Lynwood is getting ready to usher in the holidays with its annual Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade this Friday, December 6, at 7 p.m., featuring more than 100 entries of floats, dance troupes, marching bands, and an array of homegrown superstars.

Parade-goers will once again be able to grab their blankets and lawn chairs and line up along the City’s stretch of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (MLK) to enjoy the parade themed "A Hometown Christmas." Set to start at 7 p.m. at the corner of MLK Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue and proceed west toward Bullis Road, this year’s parade will also feature little leaguers eager to wave to their families on the sidelines, and a few special guests, including local elected officials and state legislators, and up and coming musical artists such as Rickardo Torres, Gonzalo Arruza and Vicky Cabrera.

Chiquis Rivera, daughter of the late Diva de la Banda Jenni Rivera, will follow the lead of several members of the famous Rivera family, including her mother, and serve as the 2013 Parade Grand Marshal.

"A Hometown Christmas" wouldn't be a real hometown parade without honoring its own homegrown stars. Serving as Parade Marshals will be the members of Lynwood High School’s Varsity Girls Basketball Team, the Lady Knights, who this year brought home the first CIF State Championship Title in 10 years.

This year’s 92nd annual Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade is more homegrown than ever, said Rosie Carillo, the City's Recreation Superintendent. “Our Candy Cane Lane Parade is a tradition. So when you have local businesses and families giving what they could despite the economy to help keep the parade going when it faced being cut... that’s when it became a real hometown parade.”
