9-year-old's mission to improve a child's time at a hospital

Phoenix-- Valley resident, Emily Fawcett has made it her mission to take the scary out of childhood hospitalizations at only 9-years-old by providing hospitals with toys. Emily became inspired to help children who must stay in the hospital after her own hospitalization when she was 6-years-old.

At 6-years-old, Emily was attacked by a dog, which required her to undergo several surgeries and hospitalizations. Although her spirits weren’t dampened due to her stays in the hospital, Emily started her own personal mission to make hospital stays less scary for other children. Emily now collects toys for children in hospitals with the help of local businesses. So far, five hospitals have benefited from Emily’s Toys 4 Joy toy drive.

What started out as her family’s way of saying thank you to the Valley hospitals that helped Emily recover from her dog attack, has now turned into a community wide toy drive. This year, toy, game, DVD, stuffed animal and craft supply donations are expected to surpass 2,500.

Emily’s Toys 4 Joy accepts new donations for both boys and girls, which will then be delivered to local hospitals.
