9-year-old gives birth in Mexico: Teen dad on the run

A nine-year-old gives birth in Mexico, and the teen who impregnated her is on the run. It's a sad situation that has everyone wondering how it could have happened. According to a Feb. 6, 2013 report by New York Daily News, state prosecutors are considering this a rape or child abuse case.

When some people heard about the nine-year-old giving birth in Mexico, they immediately asked why the young girl did not get an abortion to preserve her physical health. The answer is simple. In Mexico, a woman may only have an abortion in 13 of 31 Mexican states and only within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. The girl may not have had access or the option to terminate the pregnancy, or it may have been against her parents' wishes. Either way, the child has become a mother.

In the meantime, the 17-year-old boy who got her pregnant is on the lam after the unidentified girl delivered a healthy six-pound baby at Zoquipan Hospital, which is located in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, on Jan. 27, 2013. The nine-year-old who gave birth and her baby have been released from the hospital, and police are searching for the biological father.
