A 9-year-old gives birth in Mexico and police are currently looking for the baby's father. On Feb. 6, ABC News reported that the girl, who lives in Mexico, gave birth to a baby girl at the end of Jan. Police are looking to locate the boy who she says got her pregnant. He is believed to be a 17-year-old and will likely face charges for statutory rape. The young girl claims that she had a "loving" relationship with the teenager. Authorities don't necessarily believe her, however.
"Due to her young age, we don’t know if she is being entirely truthful," says Lino Ginzalez Corona, spokesperson at Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office.
The 9-year-old gives birth after carrying her child full-term (or just about). However, the baby was a surprise to her -- and to people around the world. "She did not realize that she was pregnant until the seventh month," said Corona. The girl, named Dafne, delivered her baby via C-section. Doctors decided that this was the best option for health and safety reasons. Obviously a 9-year-old's body isn't ready to give birth.
According to the report, Dafne lives in a poverty stricken area. Her parents "work all day" and did not stay on top of their daughter's whereabouts or wrong doings (providing that she did have sex with consent).
Although the 9-year-old gave birth and claimed to have a "relationship" with the baby's father, authorities aren't ruling out rape.
