A 9-year-old girl gave birth to a baby girl Jan. 27 who is allegedly fathered by a 17-year-old runaway. ABC News reports Feb. 6 that a Mexican girl by the name of Dafne had the baby in Jalisco and her boyfriend is nowhere to be found.
Authorities say Dafne didn't know she was pregnant until her seventh month into carrying the child. The father allegedly suggested they move in together and raise the baby together, but Dafne refused -- prompting him to leave town two months ago.
The Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office is "still open to the possibility of rape or child sex abuse” charges filed against the 17-year-old boy for having a sexual relationship with the 9-year-old girl.
Dafne has offered very little information to authorities regarding her relationship with the father of her child. His whereabouts at this time are unknown.
Dafne is one of 11 children from poverty-stricken Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos -- about 25 miles south of Guadalajara. Due to her parents working all day, they were unable to oversee everything she was up to and didn't know she was pregnant.
Since her body wasn't ready to give birth, Dafne had her baby via C-section.
