According to Mexican authorities, a 9-year-old girl gave birth to a baby girl in Mexico. The father, allegedly 17 years old, is no where to be found.
The young girl, Dafne, gave birth on January 27 in Jalisco, Mexico. Mother and baby are reportedly doing well and are home. The girl lives with her parents and 10 other siblings in a poverty-stricken neighborhood.
Per Lino Ginzalez Corona, spokesperson at Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office,
“She did not realize that she was pregnant until the seventh month. Her parents work all day and were not watching after her and therefore didn’t realize what was about to happen.”
The father of the baby allegedly lived in the same neighborhood as Dafne until two months ago when he skipped town after Dafne turned down an invitation to live with him. The girl told authorities that he was her boyfriend and they were in a loving relationship, but wouldn’t share much past that.
Due to the complications posed by a 9-year-old girl’s undeveloped body giving birth, doctors opted to deliver the baby by C-Section.
Alerted to this unspeakable act by the girl’s family subsequent to the birth of the baby, Mexican authorities are looking for the teenage father. It remains to be seen if he’ll face criminal charges of having a sexual relationship with a 9-year-old girl.
