A nine-month-old child sips on his bottle as he is being booked and fingerprinted for attempted murder, so what is wrong with this picture? Everything seems to be wrong, as this kid can barely walk and the Pakistan police have already scarred him for life with a police record.
According to the Huffington Post on April 5, this little guy was with a group of adults and kids who were throwing stones at cops. The people were angry at the cops who were shutting off electricity and gas to the homes in the neighborhood of Lahore, for non-payment of bills.
The boy appeared in video footage sitting on his grandfather’s lap being fingerprinted. This video was shown at the hearing. Luckily the judge let the baby criminal go without bail, but he is due back in court next week
The minimum age for criminal responsibility in Pakistan is 12, so this baby fell about 11 years short of meeting the criteria. The fact that they did charge a baby with attempted murder did get the cop who arrested the infant suspended. At least someone in authority saw the error of this way!
The arrest should have never been made in the first place, never mind carrying it all the way through to the fingerprinting of the little baby. The lawyer for the family of the baby, Chaudhry Irfan Sadiq, said:
"The court should have simply referred the minor's case to the High Court to drop the charges against the innocent child and acquit him from the case," Sadiq said. "This case also exposes the incompetence of our police force and the way they are operating."
