In remembrance of 9/11, the City of Franklin and Williamson County will facilitate a moment of silence on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 7:46 a.m. It was at this moment (8:46 EDT), ten years ago that terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York, and subsequently, areas in Pennsylvania and Virginia including the Pentagon.
The commemoration activities will take place on the downtown Franklin Square in front of the Williamson County Courthouse. A special emergency dispatch will be issued to commemorate the attacks and the courageous responses of safety personnel, first responders and volunteers. A moment of silence will follow with flags at all city facilities will be lowered to half mast.
Other events which include Franklin Firefighters and Police will be held throughout the weekend including the second annual Nashville 9/11 memorial Stair Climb and a ceremony at the Full Life Assembly of God’s annual Hope Awards. In addition, Franklin Mayor, Dr. Ken Moore, will speak at St. Andrew Lutheran Church on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Churches throughout the area will pay special tribute to this unique event, those lost and those who displayed heroic behavior on this heartbreaking anniversary date.
Parents, you might want to bring you children to this historic event. It provides an opportunity for a history lesson, a lesson in morals and character, family time and particularly now, a uniting of Americans.
