85th Academy Awards Best Original Song nominees announced

With the Golden Globes already over, attention is now on the 85th Academy Awards. Even though happening next month, the nominations for the award show have already been announced, including those for Best Original Song.

For a song to be eligible, Academy Awards rules state that it must be "original and specifically written for a motion picture. There must be a clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition (not necessarily visually presented) of both lyrics and melody, used in the body of the motion picture or as the first music cue in the end credits.".

Here are the five nominees:

"Before My Time" from Chasing Ice

"Everybody Needs A Best Friend" from Ted
Music by Walter Murphy; Lyric by Seth MacFarlane

"Pi's Lullaby" from Life of Pi
Music by Mychael Danna; Lyric by Bombay Jayashri

"Skyfall" from Skyfall
Music and Lyric by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth

"Suddenly" from Les Misérables
Music by Claude-Michel Schönberg; Lyric by Herbert Kretzmer and Alain Boublil

The Academy Awards will broadcast on February 24 at 7 p.m. on abc. Comedian Seth McFarlane will host.
