82nd Airborne Paratrooper: Soldier dies during training at Fort Bragg

A tragic accident at Fort Bragg has left one 82nd Airborne paratrooper dead, two seriously injured, and five others treated, according to CBS 8 on Feb. 21, 2014. The accident was an explosion that happened during a training exercise at Fort Bragg.

The North Carolina Army post issued a stated that said the explosion happened during artillery live-fire training that involved the 18th Fires Brigade. According to officials, there was "an incident" with an M777 light, towed howitzer, but nothing else has been detailed.

The names of the 82nd Airborne paratroopers have not been released and won't be until next of kin has been notified.

In the statement, it was revealed that one of the two seriously injured soldiers was taken to Womack Army Medical Center. The other soldier was taken to Duke University Medical Center.

Lifesaving care was provided to the wounded and officials give a lot of credit to two onsite medics for such quick attention.

The Army does have an ongoing investigation into what went wrong and caused the death of the 82nd Airborne paratrooper.
