At 6:12am Tuesday morning, a man made a huge mistake by trying to force his way into a N.E. Salem home. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says John Rose, 82, and his wife, Mamie Rose, 83, were alone in their home in the 3300 block of Ward Court NE. A man forced his way into the house and was shot by Mr. Rose. The man is at Salem Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The man is obviously very lucky. It appears Mr. Rose doesn't take kindly to threats against his home or his wife's safety. Not only that, this guy really picked the wrong house! Rose is the former Chief of Police of Turner, a ten year veteran police officer and currently the owner of the Academy of Legal Investigators in Salem.
Police believe that alcohol or drugs were probably involved. They haven't identified him yet and will release his nae when it's known. He will likely face burglary and criminal trespassing. A resident that rents from the Rose's says a fence next to an I-5 exit allows strangers to cut through their yard via Portland Road. She says they cut through at all hours.
The investigation is currently ongoing and Detectives are asking any witnesses to contact the Sheriff's Office at 503-588-5032.
