We are moving in the right direction for the extinction of puppy mills! On Thursday, just about 3 hours northeast of Nashville TN, in what were reported to be “extremely neglectful conditions,” a variety of about approximately 80 small breed dogs (including newborn litters) were rescued from a home in Monticello KY. They were seized by the Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) and the Wayne County Animal Control and Sheriff’s Office.
The animal’s living conditions were horrific. As described by whas11 news, the animals were all “crowded into small, dilapidated, outdoor wire and wood hutches and pens encrusted with urine and excessive piles of feces. The only water sources were dirty and green with algae growth.”
The dog’s health conditions were extremely poor as well. Most were underweight and suffering from very serious eye infections. They had major loss of fur loss and what they did have was matted and soaked with urine. They had terrible cases of internal and external parasites such as fleas. According the news source, these many of the older animals have been living in these conditions for over 10 years.
We thank Wayne County for taking allegations of animal abuse and animal cruelty very seriously. Animal Rescue Corps took action to help these dogs (and 2 parrots) and immediately brought them to an emergency shelter called Operation Unbridled Spirit, in Lebanon TN. All the animals will get proper veterinarian care and then if the animals are given to ARC, they will be placed with shelter and rescue organizations and hopefully be adopted by loving families.
