According to an article published by CNN on Jan. 22, 8-year-old Tyler J. Doohan was killed in East Rochester, New York in a mobile-home fire on Monday while attempting to rescue his disabled grandfather.

CNN reports Doohan was visiting relatives Sunday night when a fire broke out in the mobile-home around 4:45a.m. on Monday morning. Officials say young Tyler managed to wake up six people who all made it out of the trailer safely along with Tyler. However, young Tyler reportedly ran back into the blaze to rescue disabled grandfather.

Unfortunately, authorities say both Tyler and his elderly grandfather succumbed to the smoke and flames inside the home. Their remains were reportedly found together on a bed in a back room. Fire officials says it appeared Doohan, who had ripped his way out of his aunt's arms to go back inside, was trying to lift his grandfather when he was overcome with smoke.

Tyler's mother told reporters that Tyler's heroics makes her “really proud,” but she says all she wants is to have her son back.

Reports indicate that Tyler's uncle was also killed in the blaze.

Keizerfire.com reports that three times as many people die in mobile-home fires single and two-family home fires. Statstics show that for every 1,000 fires 21 people die in mobile-homes while just seven die in single and two-family homes.
