A brave 8- year-old Maryland boy fought off an attacker to save his life. Jacob Soliz-Amaya was asleep in his bed when a woman stepped out of his closet and allegedly began to smother him. Young Jacob head-butted her, something he says he saw on television. As he tried to run from the room, his attacker hit him in the head with a dumb bell. Jacob says he fought back and karate-chopped her hard enough to get free and run outside.
While a neighbor called 911, the alleged attacker jumped out of a second story window.
It turns out that the attacker, 26-year-old Helen Marie Newsome, was an ex-girlfriend of Jacob’s father. According to WJLA, an affiliate of HLN, his dad had recently broken up with her. She had been hiding and waiting in the house for more than 12 hours. Police released the 911 call today.
Jacob had to have 9 staples to close the large wound in his head. When asked by Susan Hendricks of HLN’s Now In America, if he has talked to any of his friends yet about what happened, Jacob smiled wide as he said his friends thought he was awesome and famous now. He also said “She tried to hurt me because she knows my father loves me more than anything else”.
Newsome has been arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder.
