A woman in New Mexico and her boyfriend led a disabled 8-year-old into a wooden cage and locked her up. Then they left the child and went to the movies, according to police.
“Cindy Patriarchias and Edmond Gonzales took her three children to an elementary school Friday to watch the movie, a police report said.”
When Patriarchias’ estranged husband did not see the 8-year-old at the school, he called the police, explaining that “the 8-year-old girl was unattended at the mobile home.”
Police had to wait an hour for Patriarchias, 33, and Gonzales, 37, to return home before they were able to enter.
Once inside the house, authorities found the wooden cage with the child inside. “The cage had two latches on the door, a baby crib’s mattress inside and was about 2 1/2 feet wide and 4 feet tall, police said in a statement.”
The girl is now in the custody of New Mexico’s child-protection agency.
“The girl suffers from microcephaly — a condition that gives people an abnormally small head,” said the New York Daily News.
This couple is being “held $25,000 cash-only bonds” because of child abuse.
