Kamari Smith, the young girl who was injured in a hit and run in Detroit on May 19, has died, according to sources at WXYZ, Channel 7.

The driver of a Dodge Charger sped by and struck the 8-year-old girl while she was getting ice cream with a group of kids.

10-year-old Tajah, a friend of Kamari, said “When I came outside, I saw her on the ground, and I really didn’t know what to do. I couldn't do anything but cry because she's my best friend. And it was just real sad."

“I heard a loud thump." said neighbor Ronald Cummings, "And as I came out the door, I just saw that Charger speeding away, and the little girl was laying in the street.”

“And it’s just really, really sad to see somebody hit a little girl and keep going like that.” said neighbor Rosie Edwards, whose children play with Kamari.

Information led to the arrests of Cortney Shields and Leonard Crosby, who were arraigned on Saturday in connection with the crash.
