Hyattsville, Md. --- Eight Northwestern High School JROTC students were struck by a 19 year old who lost control of a Honda Civic around 6 p.m. Thursday in the school parking lot.
Officials say glare from the sun may have caused the teen to lose control of the Honda and hit the students while they marched in formation in the rear side parking area.
The injured were taken to Children’s Hospital, MedStar Washington Hospital Center and Prince George’s Trauma Center. Officials say none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.
Police said the 19-year-old driver had only a learner’s permit and was not supervised by a licensed driver as required. The teen failed to yield to the group of students and has been charged with multiple counts of negligent driving and failure to control the vehicle. He was charged for driving without supervision.
Police have not released the driver’s name, but note that he remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators.
