7th annual Childhood Conversations conference to be held in Meriden this year

The 7th Annual Childhood Conversations conference will take place on April 12 and 13, 2013 at the Four Points Sheraton in Meriden, Connecticut. Over the past six years, Childhood Conversations has brought national speakers to parents and professionals from Southern New England to learn about relevant topics that deal with children ages 0-9 today.

The conference begins on Friday, with partner sessions that will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Afterwards, there will be a Friday evening reception and pre-conference event that is open to anyone for a $20 registration fee. The pre-conference event will feature networking opportunities, interactive tables, chair massages and a panel discussion titled “Be the Best You Can Be … for Yourself and Your Family”.

Saturday's conference will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., featuring breakfast, a keynote speaker, workshop sessions, lunch and afternoon snack. This year's conference theme is "Covering all the bases", with 20 different workshops that focus on topics of home and family, schools, community and the world, and the digital world.

This year's keynote presenter is nationally acclaimed speaker, educator, author and coach, Dr. Steve Sobel. His keynote presentation titled "Very Special Prescription For Humor, Joy and Passion" will entertain as well as provide strategies for the everyday challenges that the parents and professionals attending will inevitably face.

Participants will also be able to choose from many workshop topics, such as:

  • Food Allergies and Their Impact on Families, Schools and Communities
  • Integrating Autism Spectrum Disorders in the Classroom
  • Bringing Literacy to Life for Preschoolers
  • Quit Your Job as a Maid
  • Sign Language in Early Language and Literacy Development With Children Ages 0 – 6
  • We Cannot Give to Our Children What We Do Not Have For Ourselves
  • Raising Children in a Violent Society
  • Keeping Your Marriage Alive While Parenting
  • Childhood Internet Safety and More!!

Educators and other professionals seeking credits can sign up to receive .5 CEUs (from the University of Hartford) or 5 CECs (from the National Association of Social Workers - NASW). Registration is now open and the brochure is available. Online registration is also available.
