79-year-old man shot dead in Brooklyn, police have no leads

79-year-old James Jackson was shot dead in his Brooklyn, NY apartment on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2013.

The New York Post reports that police are not sure how the man was shot and their sources indicate it may have been a stray round of bullets that killed him.

Jackson lived with a blind woman who is reportedly either his wife or girlfriend. She called a neighbor when she couldn't get a reply from him on Sunday night.

Police were called to his apartment in Bushwick at approximately 2:25 a.m. and found the 79-year-old man shot dead, slumped over on his couch with bullet wound in his neck.

A neighbor talked to the New York Post about the shooting, saying, "“She said she couldn’t wake him up … He was lying on the couch slumped over. It’s horrible.”

CBS reports that they also spoke with the neighbor about the man's death. The witness to the incident identified herself as "Joyce" and told CBS that she received the call from Jackson's girlfriend or wife who said, "Joyce could you come down here, I can’t wake up Tyrone."

She went upstairs to check on the man and found him in a puddle of blood.

An ambulance took James Jackson to Woodhull Hospital after the shooting. He died at the hospital from the gun shot wound.

Police currently have no leads in the shooting of the 79-year-old man.
