76-year-old Cardinal Bergoglio announced as first Jesuit pope

Cardinal Bergoglio of Argentina has been announced as the new pope on March 13, 2013 - he is the first Jesuit to be elected by the Roman Catholic Church.

Two days into their conclave, cardinals of the Roman Catholic church have announced 76-year-old Cardinal Bergoglio (born in 1936) as the new pope. Shortly after white smoke billowed from the chimney atop the Sistine Chapel the predecessor to Pope Emeritus Benedict XV was announced.
