The body of a seven-year-old boy was found late last year, in India, and the details of his death are horrific. It's believed he was the victim of what could be called a hate crime because of his family's Christian beliefs.

According to the reports, the family has been the target of persecution since 2003. That's when the boy's father, Harish, decided to live for Jesus after he witnessed the miraculous healing of his brother.

Harish's boy, Anmol, went missing after attending Sunday school. His body was found in a pond the next day in northern India. His parents say the last time they saw their son was when he left for Sunday school on Nov. 17.

When Anmol failed to return home, the parents filed a missing person report with the local police. Sadly, on Monday his body was found and identified by the parents. Autopsy reports show the result of the boy's death was drowning.

Charisma News reports the details of his terrible death, "Anmol’s face was burned; his hands were slashed and destroyed by fire, and his mouth was tied shut. Hot fragments of coal or firewood had been placed on his stomach, burning his abdomen, and his toes were broken."

K.P. Yohannan, Gospel for Asia's founder and international director said, "The unprecedented torture and death of this innocent child sadden our hearts incredibly."

He added, "persecution of Christians is a weekly occurrence, but this intensity of brutality against a child is unthinkable. In this horrible tragedy, we find strength and hope in Jesus.” It's said that persecution of Christians has increased by more than 400 percent in the past few years.

The details about the murderer are not being released due to pending further investigation.

Incidents of violence and persecution against Christians have been increasing in India which usually comes at the hands of militant Hindus. In Oct. the Examiner reported that violence against Christians have been spiking since June.

Another example of the violence against Christians in India happened in Karnataka. In that town Hindu extremists dragged a Christian woman from a temple in an effort to convince her to renounce her faith. Hindu extremists kicked and punched the 50-year-old woman.

The Christianity Examiner calls on those who believe in the power of prayer to be praying for our brothers and sisters in India who live their lives in fear everyday.
