1. ‘Tending the Heart Fire’ by Shiva Rea

What better gift to give for Valentine’s Day than a book entitled “Tending the Heart Fire”? Written by accomplished yoga teacher Shiva Rea, “Tending the Heart Fire: Living in Flow with the Pulse of Life” (Sounds True; $29.95) is the perfect manual for all those yogis whose practice consists mostly of the same ol’ asana day after day and are ready to move to the next level.

Rea shows, through movement, ritual, meditation and mantra, how to connect with the pulse of the universe. Her teachings are the path to transforming one’s yoga practice and one’s life.

“When we attune to those internal and external forces, we are able to experience enormous peace, harmony, creativity and longevity,” states Rea.

2. ‘Hudson River Wind Meditations’ by Lou Reed

Hudson River Wind Meditations (Sounds True; $12.05) by Lou Reed is the perfect music to meditate to, do yoga to, do tai chi, block out the noise of the city or simply create an atmosphere. As Reed put it, “You can really do a lot of different things to it.”

The mesmerizing music is made up of digital harmonics, not really in any key, that circulate in an amorphous rhythm, creating a container for your practice, your party, your whatever.

And tell your significant other, Reed wrote the music to be listened to through speakers, not earbuds.
