April 22, 2010 marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. A day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment.
1. Shower Together
Tubby time with your partner is way more fun, as well as a sexy way to conserve water and save money.
2. Burn baby, burn
Everyone looks sexy in candlelight, so use soy candles to set the mood. They burn longer, so you'll replace them less often. Athena’s Home Novelties sells them in a variety of sexy scents, such as “skinny dip” and “naked in the woods” and because they are made with skin-safe soy, they also serve as warm, scented massage oil.
3. Get playful with green sex toys
Consider switching to a rechargeable sex toy or investing in rechargeable batteries. If you're really committed to the cause, go ahead and recharge yours right next to your cell. There’s no shame in going green!
4. Lube Up, Naturally
Everything’s better when it’s wetter! Opt for all-natural lubricants over petroleum products and avoid artificial scents, flavors and colors. Most even cost about the same as some of their not-so-green counterparts.
5. Use condoms
For safer, baby-free sex, nothing beats a latex condom. Lambskin condoms are biodegradable, but are only effective against pregnancy, not STDs. Polyurethane condoms are essentially plastic, therefore not biodegradable. Used condoms should always be thrown in the trash. While it may be easiest to just flush them down the toilet, this can clog pipes and your leach field. This will also fill your septic tank and create issues at water treatment plants. Rubbers are exempt from the “reduce, reuse, recycle” rule.
6. Turn up the heat
Keep the thermostat down and save on heating costs and have sex before going to bed. This will make the room nice and toasty and help you fall asleep. Not feeling it on a chilly night? Snuggle, spoon and sleep close, this will generate enough body heat to keep your connection and your bedroom hot.
7. Recycle
Lube comes in a plastic bottle which can be recycled. Dead batteries from your toys (and other stuff) can be recycled. Most towns have recycling programs for batteries, but if you're unsure what to do with them contact your town hall.
Be sexy, stay safe, and go green. Happy Earth Day!
