7 reasons this will be the greenest Super Bowl ever

If you think Super Bowl XLVIII will be nothing more than an orgy of crazed fanfare, tail-gating gluttony and pollution, think again.

The National Football League and MetLife Stadium – where the event will take place – have taken steps to ensure that this year’s Super Bowl will be the most environmentally responsible championship game ever. Here are seven ways promoters plan to score the winning eco-friendly touchdown:

  1. The MetLife Stadium includes recycled and sustainable building materials, the use of rehabilitated land, and an on-site solar generation system.
  2. MetLife is the first stadium in the world to meet the strict standards of the Green Restaurant Association.
  3. Efficient EnergyStar equipment will be used to make all the food served at the stadium.
  4. All waste oil generated from food production will be converted into biodiesel fuel and all food scraps will be composted.
  5. Leftover food will be donated to charity.
  6. Waste materials such as plastic, glass, aluminum and paper will be recycled.
  7. No Styrofoam containers will be used at the game.

Stadium and concert venue managers take note. There are plenty of ways your property and businesses can be just as environmentally responsible. Click here to learn more.

In the meantime, enjoy the big game!
