On November 4th, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, the fighting pride of the Philippines, will make his first ever appearance on a major American prime time show. Pacquiao will appear on the popular late night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! (JKL) on a visible Wednesday night slot on ABC, one of the U.S.' "big four" television networks.
During the third week of September, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live attracted its largest audience (1.80 million) in 6 months. (See YouTube video below for Kimmel's interview with former undisputed heavyweight champion "Iron" Mike Tyson.)

Pacquiao's appearance on the show is significant for two reasons. First, JKL attracts millions of television viewers at any given week. Thus, the mass-scale exposure validates the Filipino's stature as an international crossover star (with added pay-per-view buys for his November 14 mega-fight with welterweight champion Miguel Cotto). Secondly, American rival Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (a second claimant to the pound-for-pound throne) has been making appearances at popular mainstream shows such as Chelsea Lately (link to interview), Dancing with the Stars, and WWE (wrestling).
Jimmy Kimmel interview with Mike Tyson
7 Questions for Pacquiao from the Comedian:
Jimmy Kimmel has an "aggressive, somewhat awkward, comedic" interview style, which might unnerve more conservative segments of the masses. Here are seven topic areas Jimmy Kimmel will likely pepper the light welterweight champion with:
1. Dad ate Manny's pet dog.
It's a good thing that the Filipino has a good sense of humor. If he did not, this could turn into a truly awkward moment, but this will likely be the "aha!" moment for the crowd and viewers. Jimmy, oh Jimmy, will let Manny have it on this one, and press hard as to why his dad ate the pet dog. I can already feel the funny tension.
2. Introduction to the Philippines and Manny's status as a national icon.
Pacquiao would serve as an unofficial national ambassador here, providing a few details about his country. Kimmel, being the unapologetic comedian, will ask Manny to state all sorts of random facts about the archipelago, such as biggest export product, number of islands, and "sexy dancing shows". Here, the show's producers introduces the audience to introductory information on Manny's background and culture, and the Filipinos' unconditional and zealous support for their hero.
3. Manny's childhood.
It is no secret to many hardcore boxing fans that Pacquiao's childhood was full of extreme adversities: holding various low-paying odd jobs, being temporarily homeless, eating one meal of rice a day, not living with his immediate family while training as a teenage prize fighter, among others. This topic is the producers' segway to Pacquiao's personality and side to the boxer that many casual sports fans may not know of.

4. Dog also named "Pacman."
This is an anticipated minor "interruption topic" by Kimmel here. Asking about Manny's dog is a showbiz device to break the seriousness of childhood adversity as a topic on a comedy show. The audience can forget about the extremities and have light-hearted thoughts again.
5. November 14 fight with Miguel Cotto.
Obviously, Manny would be providing free plugs (which otherwise would have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in marketing expenses) for his upcoming mega-fight with the Puerto Rican welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. This gives the audience the chance to circle the date, and Top Rank Promotions can rake in additional pay-per-view incentives. Bob, why not show this fight on movie theaters? Big mistake. Golden Boy got the formula right.
6. Potential fight with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. or Juan Manuel Marquez.
Towards the end of the interview, Jimmy Kimmel will be obliged to ask the Filipino icon about a prospective fight that is on everyone's minds, a brewing "fight of the century" with undefeated American Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Being the comedian, he'll try to force Manny in an uncomfortable corner by asking him if the Pinoy could "kick Mayweather's ass." In such a situation, we get to see if the congressional candidate can wrestle with tough pressure cooker questions with grace and aplomb. Most likely, he will just laugh and nervously say something non-committal and cordial. The comedian might also throw another curve ball by asking what Manny thinks of Juan Manuel Marquez drinking his own urine.
7. Sing a song with the live band.
What would be a Manny show without a heartfelt song with the live band at Jimmy Kimmel Live! The champ is already committing to a post-fight concert at the Mandalay Bay the evening of November 14. It could be Pacquiao's initial shot back to Floyd's energetic dance moves on Dancing with the Stars.

I am sure Pacquiao will look better in the eyes of american public after the interview and of course he will be obliged to say that he is willing to fight Floyd.
Pinoy Boxing fans are invited to visit www.pacfans-corner.com a site for Pacquiao fans!!
if manny shows up on jay leno that would be crazy and amazing. he would need to sing "we are the champions"
PACMAN ON AMERICAN TV! WOHOOO! YEA BABY! KICK COTTO ASS
in 2010, manny will star in a movie with sylvester stallone. that would be great. it would be even better after mayweather and cotto wins. manny could be real life rocky balboa
CNN Anjali Rao was the first international talk show host to conduct roughly an hour interview with Pacquiao. It was on the spot after his workout in a gym in LA.
Good for Manny. Good for boxing fans. Good for the Philippines. Good for Jimmy. All would benefit. I cant wait for that date and the 14th.
It would be great if Manny can express himself articulately in english.
After JKL, Oprah might want to see also Manny on her show just like what she did to Charice and Arnel Pineda... That would be huge, and I hope it would come as he prepares to fight Floyd.
no problem as long as pac answer it in filipino language but if in english forget it!!!!
Cotto ended my sex life. He busted my husband's scrotum and testis. He can no longer make babies. Viagra doesn't work. Levitra is useless and Cialis gives him a headache not a hard on. I will divorce him thanks to Cotto. He needs Dr. Ruth's help. S.O.S.
Ay caramba!
Let's face it anything Manny says in english language is forgivable coz he is neither an english grammar specialist nor it his native toungue so to speak. As long as he can be understood it is lightly and perfectly okay. It could even be hilarious to watch him speaking the universal language eversince he was just a newcomer in the Star spangled country he was aided by an interpreter but now Man he is trying his best to be proficient and it seems he was improving. He can even speak fluently now compared to many Filipinos with college degree.
pacquiao has coconut balls he will not falter against the lowblows
MANNY? paki sabi na rin sa american host na yan na wag na nyang pangarapin pang pumunta dito sa pinas partikular na samin sa mindanao...at sureboll...pugot-ulo lang ang kakahantungan nyan samin....
This is what is going to happen. Jimmy is going to crack a very racist Filipino joke, Manny will just smile and laught it off, everyone laughs at Manny. Western media is the most racist crap ever. Manny should just show his fist to Jimmy right when he walks in and feigns a punch. That will put Jimmy in check.
I say Manny better be careful in Hollywood. They have ways of turning an international Asian superstar into a joke. Jackie Chan, Jet Li are just props for white actors nowadays. I work in Hollywood and know very well the subversive racism towards Asians, be it domestic and international. I'd rather they not portray Asians at all. It's just insulting.
proficiency in english speaking will take time...just like boxing...needs practice and regular usage...give the guy a chance
pacquiao's answer will always have the word "you know" lol
Manny, Focus only to your Nov. Fight. whatever they say. Take it as pass bye. We Know your Capability... Good luck.
I work here in a company where 30% of its employee are composed of Japanese who came and were raised-up in Japan. When these Japanese speak English, local born American don't really care about their grammar and pronounciation. As long as they are understood, fine!!!
If I compare Pacquiao speak English to these Japanese, Pacquiao is way ahead much, much better. Adu kadatayo laeng nga Pilipino ti na-uyaw ( Marami lang sa ating mga pinoy ang napakaganda - nakapinpintas.)
It's painful to watch and exhausting to listen to Manny's replies to english questions. He's not articulate in his regional visayan dialect, neither in tagalog. He's "trying-hard- to-speak-english on bigtime American TV would appear embarassing -- not to mention the fact that Kimmel's brand of humor is downright insulting. I suggest a translator should tag along with Manny in the show if only to cushion the impact of the host's offensive humor.
If you train hard, the fight is E Z
"you know" manny can handle jimmy's joke..it doesnt matter if he's fluent in english or not... this is a good advertising and advertising is money...
Go Manny, I can understand your grammar and english...Good luck.
My Hispanic friends sometimes laughed at me when I try to to converse with them in their language, they think it is funny but never embarrassing.
YOU KNOW?!
manny is trying hard to learn english.whats the big matters of that?shame you all critics utak palaka arogante atleast hndi sya mandurugas di katulad nyo pweee........

WHO CARES WEATHER PACMAN SPEAKS FLUENT ENGLISH OR NOT,and Who the is JIMMY Kimmel? He maybe just another "WHITE TRASH" who makes a living BY MAKING FUN of the other guy. My utmost respect to Manny Pacquiao will not change wether he speaks fluent english or not. For those of you IDIOTS critisizing Manny's proficiency in english language and pretending to be an English major go take a hike.
Remember the CNN asia interview, well he did very good. As a matter of fact if I were an English teacher I'll give him a passing grade of 75%. So I think he'll handle the Kimmel interview well and if not we'll handle Kimmel well. Good luck Manny.
You're my idol now!
anak wag mong intindihin yan magaling ka na mag english ngayon
To be sure that there would be no problem,I suggest that Manny should bring a translator along with him. Right kailian ken padak nga Ilocano Ottog Hahn Matalam?Good day kabsat!
All Manny has to do is to be himself. He is a very secure guy and will not be made fun of. To the guy who claims he work in Hollywood...... yeah right...... there's discrimination everywhere so what's your point? Go to NY, Vegas, Calif, Europe, they are prejudice against Mexicans, Jews, Koreans, Muslims, midgets, lesbians, etc...... Wake up dude. Pakyaw will be fine if he stays true to himself.
mannys wont be habing the problims of this interbyos becows the teachers in the malapunyetang crew of the palaces will teaching the mannys boxers the write to say his inglesh...he will just impraising the presidents of the pilipines the philipines dont want to eat he dogs tbut the humans in the palaces is behaving likes the hungary dogshitss...amen,,,more voltage for manny...
ha ha ha....very good inglessh!!!
TO: THE MAGAGALING MAG-ENGLISH. Nasaan kayo ngayon? Nasaan si Manny? TINGNAN NINYO YANG KINALALAGYAN N'YO AT IKUMPARA N'YO KAY MANNY. AT MERON BANG NETWORK NA NAGAALOK MAN LANG NG INTERVIEW SA INYO? Manny has been interviewed a lot of times by HBO anchor man. Also CNN Talk Asia hosted by Anjali Rao. He did pretty well.
this is boxing and Manny Pacquiao is a boxer not an english speaker..he always use his fist not his mouth during the fight..many boxers are not fluent in english and most of them don't even know how to speak or understand in english that's why they have always interpreter on thier side during the interview..this is not a big issue.
kimmel pls. don't english me im not schooling! you know..subukan mo lng..
Why not, sounds ligit and funny, manny could handle that he is tough guy, thats minor......good for publicity and his fight..
I got those jokes too,it doesnt matter at all
how about manny the mexecutioner vs guillermo that would be funny
Thanks to Jun Lorenz who initiated the call to Jimmy Kimmel back in Dec 2008. Manny needs this major US exposure! Hopefully, Mike Koncz won't sabotage this like he did w Fox Sports. Manny needs "good working people around him"...not no freeloaders who just wait at the end of the fight for free money from Manny! LOSERS!!!! Manny should make Jun Lorenz his agent, I think he's the only one who is really working besides Manny's trainers!
Korekok!Si Kokey ba bisaya,english o tagalog ang salita?Ewan!
jimmy kimmel live website says it's airing on tuesday, not wednesday....
You have to understand that Manny was born and raised in the PI and I can relate to him since I was born there myself and moved here in the U.S. when I was 13! you're no better than he is. At least he tries and doesn't forget where he came from. He may not speak English that well but as a person he's way beyond that you m0ther fcukers will ever be. You all can call us fobs or whatever you want but we at least know our native tongue and our roots where we came from. The problem with the typical Filipinos in the states are just because they live in the US now they think they're better than everybody else especially the one who just recently moved here or ones still living in the PI. There are some pinoys that came here when they were 16-17 yrs old and 5 years down the road they claimed to have forgotten how to speak tagalog??? hahah that's straight mayabang!!! FU. I've been living in the US for about 20 years now and to this day I still speak and write tagalog fluently!
Got something to say?
