The iPhone 3GS is a nice upgrade over its predecessors with video support, a faster processor and upgraded graphics that might just give the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS a run for their money in the gaming-on-the-go front. And even iPhone 3G and iPod Touch users got a nice boost from the iPhone OS 3.0 release, which brings the much-awaited copy-and-paste feature among many, many other goodies.
Check out the 5 best features of the iPhone OS 3.0
But there's still a lot missing from the iPhone 3GS, and even areas that lags behind the competition. Here's seven features that would make great additions to the iPhone:
1. A Better Web Browser.
When the iPhone debuted, it promised the real web on your phone. Unfortunately, Skyfire for Windows Mobile is doing a better job of it than the iPhone's Safari browser. Where's our Flash support? Spellchecking? Better yet, when will we see third-party add-ons to the Safari browser?
2. Email attachments and customization.
The email interface has definitely improved since the iPhone debuted, but it still has a long way to go. The most glaring omission is the inability to attach photos, videos or other files when creating a new message. If you want to send a friend a copy of the photo you just snapped, you have to go through the photo roll interface.
The ability to customize individual email accounts with their own signature and different settings, like having one on manual fetch, another on auto fetch at 15 minute intervals and a third on auto fetch at 1 hour intervals.
3. Manual Rotate and Easy Wi-Fi Disable.
Have you ever had your iPhone go into landscape mode when you aren't holding it horizontally forcing you to jiggle it back and forth to get it back to portrait mode? Wouldn't you love a gesture that easily pops you from portrait to landscape or vice versa?
Another nice feature would be an easy Wi-Fi disable by touching the data bar at the top. That way, if you are walking through your house and hit an area with poor reception to your wireless router, you can switch to the 3G without exiting the app and going to the settings.
4. Front-facing Camera and a Camera Flash
The possibility of a front-facing camera was one of the biggest features being talked about leading up to the iPhone 3GS announcement. It is easy to tell that there is some big support out there for the idea of video conferencing on the iPhone.
And while we are at it, can we get some camera flash action going on?
