This list of seven free apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch to start the new year right begins with Apple's free app “12 Days of Gifts”. This free app from Apple will give you a free gift for today and each of the following five days. Today's free gift is “Rayman Jungle Run” (Reg. $2.99), according to a Jan. 1 report in iclarified.com.

“Rayman Jungle Run”, has lots of new worlds to explore in stunning graphics and new levels to unlock. Helping Rayman complete his adventures can be easy, but scoring high can be challenging—which makes for addicting fun.

“SYS Activity Manager Plus” is free today too (Reg. 99 cents). This app extends the battery life of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch by monitoring what background processes and apps are running and letting you close them.

If you don't the see the point in spending money to save money, you'll want to get “Easy Spending Expense Tracker” which is free for today. This clean, easy to use budget tracker lets you quickly build categories, see future bills coming, search for transactions and notes, plus lots more—including a password lock.

The free app “Relaxing Nature: Ambient Scenes and Sounds for Sleep and Relaxation” (Reg. $1.99) will help you set time aside to unwind. Stunning videos of nature include, flowing water, relaxing waterfalls and lots more appear with nature sounds and ambient music playing softly in the background. The nature sounds and music can be mixed or played separately. There is also a sleep timer. If you like this app, you will also enjoy “Music Healing | Voice” which is equally popular and is on sale today for free (Reg. $4.99).

Everyone who loves music will want “SoundHound”, which cut its price from $6.99 to free for today. This blazing-fast free music recognition app instantly identifies songs around you (including songs that you hum or sing), shows you the lyrics, lets you share them—and has tons of additional features. Lyrics, for example, move with the music; you can get real-time Facebook and Twitter updates from your favorite artists; you can listen to YouTube videos, launch Pandora free streaming music radio and listen to the songs it identifies on iTunes Radio.

“Articles” dropped its 99 cent price and is going free for today. This free app is a “Wikipedia” reader. There are also integrated maps so you can learn about interesting places and events anywhere in the world—including your current location. You can also just shake your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch and this app will find an interesting article for you to learn something new each day.

“12 Days of Gifts” is rated 12+ and requires iOS 7.0+, is optimized for iPhone 5 and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

“Rayman Jungle Run” is rated 9+ for violence and supports Game Center. This app requires iOS 5.0+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“SYS Activity Manager Plus” requires iOS 5.0+, is optimized for iPhone 5 and is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

“Easy Spending Expense Tracker” requires iOS 7.0+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“Relaxing Nature: Ambient Scenes and Sounds for Sleep and Relaxation” requires iOS 4.3+ and is optimized for iPhone 5. “Music Healing | Voice” requires iOS 3.2+. Both of these free apps are compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

“SoundHound” is rated 9+ for mild profanity and suggestive themes. This app requires iOS 6.1+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.

“Articles” is rated 9+ for suggestive themes. Like the free app “Soundhound above, this app requires iOS 6.1+, is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch and is optimized for iPhone 5.
